Big Enough for a New Toy (Sort Of)

Cleaned up the boys' old exersaucer today. Reagan's big enough for it now! Well... at least she's tall enough that her head peeks over the top :)

Solids

I LOVE the addition of solid foods to Reagan's life! She has slept 10 hours each of the two nights since we started them. How cool is THAT????

The Nature of Babyhood

It occurred to me tonight how utterly fleeting baby-hood is. I get her small and cuddly and helpless for a few short months. From the moment of her birth, she's been progressively growing away from me - getting bigger, more independent. It's as it should be. But I know I will miss these times. I know I will miss her sitting in my lap, and fitting in the crook of my arm. I know I will miss her bald little head, and toothless grin. It will all be supplanted by a little girl in the not so distant future. I will love the little girl as intensely as I do this little baby, but... I WILL miss the baby. She's my last chance at "baby", and I want to soak in every second of her. She's so tiny and delicate and squeezable. She makes me smile just by looking at her. When the little girl comes in her place, I know I will miss the baby's overwhelming innocence and sweetness. It's unique to baby-dom, that innocence. But I know she must grow, will grow, and I will be happy with her growing. I just wish the growing didn't take the baby away at the same time :). Because I LOVE THIS LITTLE BABY!!!

Girly Girl

Oh, the pink flowers, eyelet lace, ruffles, ribbons, bows, and pink tights! Reagan was an explosion of girli-ness today, the likes of which has never before been seen in our testosterone-laden house! Wow. Maybe it was a tad over-the-top, but mom has suffered from "girly deprivation" for a long time now, and I just couldn't help myself!!!

A New Seat For Baby

Princess Reagan has a new throne... a bumbo seat. Quinn thinks it's a great place for Reagan to do the Hokey Pokey. He was singing the song and having her shake her little hands and feet. Wish my new camera had video and sound... it was adorable!!!

Another Day, Another New Hat....

If she just wasn't so dang cute in these hats, I wouldn't feel quite as compelled to be constantly making new ones for her :)

The Difference One Baby and 4 Years Experience Makes

I was just "cleaning out" all my Word documents, and stumbled upon this "note" of instructions for Quinn and Colby's first babysitter when they were 2 months old. WOW. ANAL!!!!! So funny! I am so not like that with this baby! Maybe that's why I"m up at 3 am with her instead of sleeping through the night, though. We were so scheduled and rigid with them!!!! I do still try to put her to bed drowsy- not- asleep, but if she falls asleep while eating, I am not ABOUT to wake her up!!!! And quite honestly, she has never heard a "Baby Mozart" CD in all her 4 months of life. Probably not during the 8 months in utero either.

OH... wiser and more experienced? Or lazier? HMMMMMM.

Baby Guidelines

1. The babies eat every 3 to 3 ½1/2 hours during the day.
2. The “order” of the day is change diaper, eat, awake time/play, nap. If the babies are falling asleep during their feeding, they can be woken up by burping. You can hold off on changing their diapers until after the feeding to make sure they are awake afterwards. Try to get a full feeding in if you can,. Sometimes they may need a little break before finishing a bottle.
3. They should be put in their crib for their nap. Try to put them in there when they are looking sleepy, but still awake. We’re trying to get them to learn to fall asleep in their crib on their own, without having to be rocked or fed to sleep. The mobile can be used when they’re in the crib – they really like it.
4. Formula is in the fridge. I’ve been putting 4 ounces in the bottles lately, and then documenting on the chart how much each boy ate and when.
5. Awake/play time…. Each day should have some time after a feeding on the floor (on their back or sides), some tummy time, some time with music and/or the Baby Mozart CD, and some time reading to and/or talking with the babies.
6. The boys need their antibiotics by syringe, 4 ml every day. Vitamins are 1.0 ml per day, mixed in with a little of their formula (this works best with the Haberman nipple). Mark the time they are given their medicines on the chart.
7. Colby needs encouragement to turn his head to the left, so I’ve been placing him on his left side in the crib, to avoid his head getting any flatter on the right than it already is.
8. General feeding schedule: 3:30 am, 6:30am, 9:30-10:00am, 12:30-1:00pm, 4:00pm, 7:00pm, 10:00pm.

Another Milestone

Reagan rolled over from stomach to back for the first time today. Several times, actually. I foresee tummy-time becoming much more difficult to sustain in the near future, as she's hardly a fan. Watch out world! Reagan's becoming mobile!

4 Months Old

Reagan is officially 4 months old today. Where did that time go?? She is still fighting off her first cold, but is overall a very happy baby. She is discovering her hands now, and it's so cute. She waves them around, and tries to use them to perform tasks like holding her own bottle and putting a binky in her own mouth. Not real good at it yet, but she tries hard! Colby says she looks like a "music man" (conductor), waving her arms around. Tonight she actually held her own bottle, completely unsupported by me, for about 30 seconds or so before dropping it. Quite the feat for such a little tyke! The good sleeping thing has gone out the window with the onset of this cold, but I have high hopes that we'll regain that once clear nasal passages are restored.

Reagan looked awfully cute all dressed up for church today.... not very LIVELY, but cute, nonetheless :)
