So, my crabby elder children were complaining about life in general on the way to school today. Nothing was making them happy. They especially didn't appreciate when Mom told them that it was all of our responsibility to potty train the new puppy. The kids wanted to be paid for that job, and Mama wasn't thrilled with their response. No potty training, no puppy. That's just how it rolls around here.
Then a boy pops off with this....
"Mom, you used our Christmas money to buy yourself that dog and a new couch! "
WHAT?!?!?!?!
"No, I certainly did NOT!!!" Then Mama may have launched into a very irate tirade about ungrateful children and false accusations. There may have also been a threat or two of allowing no more money to EVER be received as birthday or Christmas gifts, if they were going to accuse their parents or theft whenever they received some. The tirade may have lasted all the way to the middle school, where she dropped off her no-good boys.
After the boys were out of the car, the remaining little girl piped up.
"Mom, I'm not crabby!"
"You're right Reagan. You're my ray of sunshine. Thank goodness for Reagan!"
"And I don't mind at all that you used my Christmas money to buy the couch! I like the new couch!!"
SO, for the OFFICIAL RECORD, here in PRINT: I did NOT STEAL MY CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS MONEY TO BUY MYSELF A COUCH. I can see their false memories implanting already. Years from now, at my funeral, the three of them will all be sitting around my coffin saying "remember when Mom took our Christmas money and bought herself a couch and a puppy?"
UGH. Not that it's anyone's business, but I used credit to buy that couch, thank you very much!!! Good grief. And worked overtime for the puppy!!!
Ingrates.
